A Computer Program for Analyzing Political Values
|
The sidebar on page 434 of Challenge of Democracy 6th Ed points out that one of the twenty questions in IDEAlog pertains to the government's role in restricting pornography. Some people who advocate freedom of speech would nonetheless object to the unregulated transmission of pornographic material over the Internet, not to mention broadcast television. Others hold free speech close to an absolute value that should never be compromised.
You might think back to how you answered this question in IDEAlog. Would you back laws that restrict dissemination of hard-core pornography to the public? Or is freedom of speech a more compelling value?
